coupe-lobee-porcelaine-emaux-polychromes-vintage
Polychrome enamel porcelain lobed bowl

Thick white porcelain, with a multi-lobed, corolla-shaped rim evoking a stylized flower. The decoration is painted in polychrome enamels applied over the already-fired glaze: a lattice of green, blue, and ochre lozenges repeats on each lobe, outlined with a brown line and a gilded border. In the center, a medallion features a yellow-bellied bird perched on a blossoming plum branch, a classic motif in Japanese porcelain painting.

This type of large, scalloped-rim dish is placed in the center of the table as a shared serving platter: for vinegared vegetables, seasonal fruits, or cold noodles in summer, which each person then serves into their own bowl. It is not lifted to eat from; one helps oneself from it. The medallion painted at the bottom is gradually revealed as the dish empties, a detail designed to accompany the entire meal.

Vintage piece, with no definitively identifiable signature (a small green enamel stamp appears under the foot, but is illegible with certainty). It is impossible to attribute this bowl to a specific workshop, but that is also what makes it a unique piece: no series, no possibility of reissue.

Care: hand wash only; avoid dishwashers and microwaves. The polychrome enamels are sensitive to thermal shock, so avoid sudden transitions from hot to cold, and dry the piece immediately after washing.

Estimated dimensions: diameter 22 to 24 cm, height 8 to 9 cm (to be confirmed by direct measurement).
