Product description

This hand-thrown stoneware bowl bears the marks of an ancient craft: a drip of amber-brown glaze that cascades from the rim and fades away onto the bare earth, revealing the grain of the stoneware beneath the fingers. On the body, a flower traced with an iron-oxide brush—just a few strokes, nothing more, and everything is said.

It is the kind of object you set on the table without a second thought, yet it changes everything: a rice bowl, a miso soup bowl, a bowl for morning fruit. Its flared shape and small, refined foot make it as pleasant to hold in the palm of your hand as it is to place before you.

Found during a journey, this bowl is unsigned. It is impossible to say with certainty whether it comes from a workshop in the Karatsu or Mino style, two regions known for this type of decoration painted under a kaki glaze. That is precisely what makes it a unique vintage piece: no mass production, no reissue, just a single piece, with its patina and small firing irregularities that tell the story of the hand that shaped it.

Care: hand washing recommended; avoid dishwashers and abrupt temperature changes to preserve the glaze and the drip.

Approximate dimensions: about 13 to 14 cm in diameter, 6 to 7 cm in height (to be confirmed by direct measurement).
