Product description
Some pieces hover between bowl and plate, and therein lies their brilliance. This large Japanese ceramic bowl-plate features a flared oval shape with free-form, slightly wavy edges, as if shaped by hand rather than imposed by a mold. The Oribe glaze—an intense forest green mingled with deep brown—is one of the oldest traditions in Japanese ceramics; born in the 16th century in the Mino region, it embodies a taste for the imperfect gesture and unconventional beauty. On the glazed background, white reserves reveal hand-painted motifs—grasses, calligraphic strokes in red and ochre—with each medallion unique and never repeated. The raw, deliberately unglazed clay base serves as a reminder that this piece was shaped, fired, and intentional. At the table, it is equally suited for a vegetable carpaccio, a sashimi arrangement, or an autumn salad.
Care: this ceramic piece should be hand-washed to preserve the Oribe glaze over time; avoid sudden thermal shocks.
