Product description

This natsume commands silence. Its cylindrical form, composed of five stacked rings turned with an almost meditative regularity, evokes the spine of a temple, the segments of a bamboo stalk, or the ripples in water when a stone is cast. There is something profoundly Japanese in this repetition: beauty born of constraint, of the repeated gesture, of a rhythm embraced to its very end.

The dark wood, a mahogany brown with warm highlights, has been patinated by time to achieve a deep, uniform hue that no stain could ever replicate. The grooves between the rings, darker in tone, emphasize the relief and create shadows that shift with the light, giving the pot an almost sculptural presence. The flat lid, with its raised concentric circles, mirrors the annular motif of the body on a miniature scale: a perfect echo, a composition complete within itself.

Sober, solid, timeless. This pot does not seek to seduce; it commands attention. Only one piece available, for those who prefer strength to ornament.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this pot made of five rings?

They are turned with meditative regularity, a construction that evokes bamboo sections or circles in water.

Is the dark patina of the wood a treatment?

It comes from time and use; never try to sand or lighten it, as it is a quality of the piece.

How do I look after this pot?

Clean it with a soft, dry cloth, apply a light natural oil once a year, and never immerse it in water.

How to use it?

A natsume is a small Japanese tea container named after the jujube, whose shape it echoes. It holds matcha.
What it is for: it protects the powder from air and light and sits on the tea tray. It is also an object worth displaying.
Keep matcha in it, away from light, humidity and odours.
Clean with a soft, dry cloth only. Never immerse it in water and avoid steam.
Once a year, apply a light natural oil (camellia or walnut) to nourish the wood. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
The dark patina is a quality: never try to sand or lighten the wood.
Idea: it also makes a lovely gift for someone discovering matcha.
Good to know: an opened matcha is best drunk within a few weeks, to keep its colour and aroma.
