Product description

There is something immediately touching about this jar. Its acorn shape, carved with remarkable precision and sensitivity, instantly evokes the world of the forest, of a Japanese autumn, of those silent walks beneath the oaks where every step crunches on the dead leaves. This natsume is like no other, and that is precisely what makes it unforgettable.

The artisan has chosen two woods with opposing yet complementary characters: a light oak for the body, with broad and expressive grain, bearing a natural knot like an imprint of the living, and a darker, polished wood for the domed lid, reminiscent of the color of a real acorn's cupule. The irregular, sawtooth cut that separates the two parts playfully mimics the natural junction of the fruit and its cap.

The small black handle, understated and cylindrical, places the final touch on this composition with restraint. Only one piece available, a work carved from the living, still smelling of the forest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why two different woods on this pot?

The craftsman chose a light, veined oak for the body and a darker wood for the lid, a contrast that emphasises the acorn shape.

Is the knot visible in the wood a defect?

No, it is a natural mark of the living tree, seen as the tree's signature rather than a defect.

How do I look after it?

Clean it with a soft, dry cloth only, and apply a light natural oil (camellia or walnut) once a year to the oak body.

How to use it?

A natsume is a small Japanese tea container named after the jujube, whose shape it echoes. It holds matcha.
What it is for: it protects the powder from air and light and sits on the tea tray. It is also an object worth displaying.
Keep matcha in it, away from light, humidity and odours.
Clean only with a soft, dry cloth. Never immerse it in water and avoid steam.
Once a year, apply a light natural oil (camellia or walnut) to the oak body to nourish the wood. Avoid prolonged direct sun.
The knot visible in the wood is a character, not a flaw: it is the tree's signature.
Idea: it also makes a lovely gift for someone discovering matcha.
Good to know: an opened matcha is best drunk within a few weeks, to keep its colour and aroma.
