Product description

More than just an apron, the maekake (前掛け) is an iconic piece of Japanese craftsmanship. Born in the Edo period, it has accompanied generations of artisans, brewers, and chefs, a symbol of solidity and elegance. Woven on centuries-old looms, each maekake offers a dense texture, impeccable fit, and unique character. Its long, sturdy belt wraps around the waist, ensuring comfort and support.
At Dogou, we chose the black model, understated and powerful, designed to last and develop a patina over time. Worn daily or displayed as a decorative piece, it embodies the Japanese art of living: useful, aesthetic, and durable.

Un savoir-faire préservé

At Anything, each maekake is woven on Toyota looms that are over 100 years old, preserving a rare technique inherited from the Edo period. This traditional method results in a thick, strong, and uniquely hand-feel fabric that is difficult to replicate with modern techniques.

In their Toyohashi workshop, the artisans work meticulously to perpetuate this almost extinct know-how. Every step counts: from cutting the cotton to preparing the dye, everything is designed to guarantee authenticity and durability.

Each maekake tells the story of Japan and its crafts, combining aesthetics and functionality. For lovers of authentic Japanese objects, it's much more than an apron: it's a piece of living heritage, passed down from generation to generation. Anything products embody the convergence of tradition, craftsmanship, and everyday use, bringing a true touch of Japanese history to your kitchen or workshop.
