Product description

Setting down your chopsticks between courses: a Japanese gesture, a moment of pause in the meal. These four Imari porcelain chopstick rests turn this gesture into something refined. Their trapezoidal, slightly inclined spatula shape holds the chopsticks at an angle, neatly, without them rolling. On each piece, a hand-painted design: red and yellow plum blossoms on branches, two green birds perched in the foliage, a red lattice in the center, a border of small green leaves along the edges, and a cobalt blue trim all around. The classic Imari palette, born in Arita in the 17th century: milky white, deep blue, vivid iron red, greens, and gold. The four pieces are matching without being identical. Look closely: each bird is slightly different, each flower placed in its own way. It is the hand, not the machine. This set transforms an ordinary table into a Japanese one. Without any extra effort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does this decoration's Imari palette come from?

It is a tradition born in Arita in the 17th century, recognisable by its milky white, cobalt blue and iron red.

How many pieces are included?

The set includes 4 chopstick rests.

How do I store them without damaging the decoration?

Store them without stacking to avoid chipping the painted decoration, and wash them by hand.

How to use it?

A chopstick rest, hashioki in Japanese, is a small support on which you set your chopsticks.
What it is for: it keeps the chopsticks off the table and decorates the place setting. You set one per guest.
Rest your chopsticks on them between courses or at the start of the meal: the angled spatula shape holds them at a slant so they do not roll.
They can also serve as knife rests or place markers.
Wash by hand to preserve the colours.
Store without stacking, to avoid chipping the decoration.
Idea: set one per guest, even for a simple everyday meal: the table instantly looks more considered.
Good to know: store them separately, in a box, to protect the decoration.
