Product description

Bamboo does not need to be fired. It simply needs to be carved. This cylindrical vase, slightly flared at the top, is sculpted from a single thick bamboo stalk, patinated brown-black by time or finishing work. On the main body, a botan peony in low relief: the overlapping petals, the serrated leaves, the stem rising from the bottom. The detail is fine, the relief masterful, the composition centered with a confidence that betrays the habit of the gesture. At the bottom of the vase, a design of swirling foliage encircles the base like a frozen wave. The patina is deep, uniform, acquired. This vase fits in one hand. That is its primary quality: it is at the right scale, that of an object one moves, repositions, offers as a gift. For a plum blossom branch in winter, an iris in spring, a stem of miscanthus in autumn. Or simply placed, empty, on a shelf.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this vase made?

It is carved from a single section of bamboo (monoxylous piece), with a botan peony in low relief on the main body.

Can I put water directly in it?

No, it is better to insert a small glass or metal tube for the water, without immersing the bamboo or letting moisture sit.

How do I care for the bamboo if it dries out?

Apply a thin coat of camellia oil.

How to use it?

A Japanese container for arranging flowers: ikebana favours a few well-placed stems over a large bouquet.
What it is for: you arrange a branch, a seasonal stem or a few grasses in it to dress a corner of the home.
Use it as a single-stem vase: one stem, one branch or a seasonal grass, for example plum in winter, iris in spring, miscanthus in autumn.
Insert a small glass or metal tube for the water if needed. Do not immerse it and do not let damp linger.
Or set it empty on a shelf.
If the bamboo dries, care for it with a thin layer of camellia oil.
Idea: fewer flowers is better: one or two well-chosen stems are enough to dress up a corner of a shelf.
Good to know: change the water every two days and recut the stems at an angle, so flowers last longer.
