Product description
The gesture
Whether pouring sake, a sauce, or a condiment, the flared shape (katakuchi) makes serving at the table easy.
Why it is different
100% pure tin, hand-cast in sand by the artisans of Nousaku in Takaoka, a city that has been working with metal since the beginning of the 17th century. Each piece bears slight irregularities that reflect the artisan's hand; no two are exactly alike.
Why this tin over a more common material
Tin provides a soft texture and a luster that develops a patina over time, rather than remaining static like enamel. It also allows you to keep drinks cool in the refrigerator, though it must not be used in the microwave, oven, or dishwasher.
Why I chose it
"What drew me to this bowl first was its material. Tin is quite rare in the tableware we encounter today, and I loved its appearance, which is both understated and almost raw. It has a distinct presence without trying to grab attention. It is the kind of piece I find interesting precisely because it is out of the ordinary while remaining very simple to use."
You will like it if
- you prefer a rare material on the table over classic enamel
- you appreciate a piece that ages with you rather than a decorative object
- you are looking for a serving piece for sake, sauces, or condiments
It is probably not for you if
- you are looking for several strictly identical pieces
- washing exclusively by hand (never microwave, oven, or dishwasher) does not suit you
Practical details
Available in two sizes: small (133 × 73 × H54 mm, 200 ml, approximately 210 g) and large (162 × 90 × H63 mm, 350 ml, approximately 350 g). Gift box included. Clean by hand with a soft sponge, polish occasionally with a soft cloth.
An object designed to last
Pure tin, with simple care, develops a patina rather than wearing down; each year of use adds to its character.
