Product description
The gesture
Pouring with one hand, naturally. The side handle of the Kyusu is not an aesthetic choice: it brings the hand closer to the center of the teapot and allows you to pour while holding the lid in place with your thumb.
With its 380 ml capacity, this Kyusu is sized for one large cup or two small ones, enough to prepare tea for yourself without bringing out a large teapot for a simple infusion.
Why it is different
The 18-8 stainless steel body retains neither odors nor aromas: you can switch from a sencha to a hōjicha without the previous infusion marking the next. And there is the contrast, the cold and precise steel, the warm and living wood, two materials you want to leave visible on the table.
Why a Kyusu rather than a classic teapot?
A Kyusu is designed around the Japanese tea ritual: a small capacity, a side grip, and a precise pour. This format encourages preparing less tea, but more often, much like preparing a single cup of coffee rather than an entire pot. 380 ml. One infusion. One moment.
Why I chose it
“I love objects that become obvious as soon as you use them. I liked this Kyusu for that reason: by picking it up, you immediately understand why the handle is placed here and why the lid is held this way. Nothing is spectacular, but everything seems to be in its place. It is exactly the type of object I look for at Dogou.”
You will love it if
- you regularly prepare sencha or hōjicha
- you like simple and durable objects
- you prefer to prepare one or two cups rather than a large teapot
- you are ready for simple hand maintenance, without a dishwasher
- you like objects that remain beautiful even when used every day
It is probably not for you if
- you are looking for a large family-sized teapot
- you want to be able to put it in the dishwasher
- you are looking for a traditional ceramic teapot
In practice
Capacity 380 ml, dimensions 150 x 118 x H 93 mm, weight 190 g. Not for use on direct heat or in the microwave. Rinse with hot water before first use. Steep for 1 to 2 minutes for a sencha, 30 seconds for a gyokuro. Also works for cold tea, with a long infusion in the refrigerator. Dry the wooden handle after washing to preserve the material; do not let water stagnate inside; no dishwasher, the wooden handle cannot withstand it.
An object designed to last
18-8 stainless steel, hand-worked natural wood, Japanese manufacturing: every choice prioritizes durability and use rather than fashion trends. It is an object that you can use every day, for years, without fearing that it will go out of style or lose its qualities.
